Event Director’s Report: Clark Brooked reported that so far he has nine requests. As for the retreat last February, the board reviewed and discussed on how the requests and donation requests worked.
Richard Bonheyo brought up the concern regarding giving $1,000 to DCARA at a previous board meeting. It needs to be returned ASAP as the board should have never passed something without Jim Brune’s presence at the meeting.
Today, we have a fundraiser by the softball players who are here. Rima Cornish: A representative for the SF Stingers softball team. She reported that Maryland’s softball team has a winning streak (for the past 5 years) and wants to break that. BBQ will be held this afternoon as planned. The profits will be split with SFCD and Stingers’ softball team. The regional tourney will be held in Washington on June 26th thru 28th. Another softball tournament will be held in Portland, Oregon in August.
PAC Student Representatives: (from the California School for the Deaf) they gave their presentation which included their updated financial reports. They asked SFCD to present the PAC award at the 8th grade promotion on June 10th at 2 pm. They invited the president to do the honor. The board is invited to attend.
President David Martin: He mentioned the need of getting a safe box as all items, legal deeds, and other important stuff need to be protected and kept in one safe place.
Proposals/sponsorships:
Proposal – Rima Cornish
I propose that SF Stingers and SFCD have a partnership on an annual basis. I want SFCD to be the main sponsor (like owning the team) and take care of the fees and sponsorships. Yes, there will be a MOU involving everything. Jerry Grigsby asked that the proposal to be referred to the event director. Rima wants the fees to be paid by SFCD automatically on an annual basis. As for sponsorship, Rima agreed to attend and request in person. I move that SFCD partner with the Stingers on an annual basis with the understanding that MOU will be developed. Seconded by Bert Enos. Voted. PASSED.
Proposal -- Dick Mussen: NCGAD (Northern California Golf Association for the Deaf) wants the nonprofit form to be signed by SFCD so they can be permitted to do volunteer work and fundraise money for its association. They will earn 50 to 60 dollars per volunteer. For example, if have five volunteers per game, then they will be able to collect $250 -300. Dick was advised by the board to check with the office to see if SFCD’s tax i.d. number qualifies first before the board signs the form.
Proposal – DCARA: Deaf Community Night, Black Community Night, Thanksgiving, and others. We met with DCARA representative Chriz Dally this morning at 815 a.m. to discuss proposal. Chriz will take notes and share them with Jim Brune and let us know if they agree to our MOU discussion. Chriz explained about two events -- Oktoberfest and Thanksgiving feast -- wants to give a booth to SFCD as part of MOU.
Proposal – Jane Newkirk: She asked for financial support for her daughter Alex who will participate on a basketball team in Poland. She shared what they have done to help fundraise on their part. As for a specific amount of money, it is up to the board to decide.
Proposal -- Larry Venegas: $2500 The MOU was found. Has it been met? If yes, then we can reconsider but Larry has not attended the meeting today to present his proposal. Therefore we will not act on this proposal.
Proposal -- LeRoy Boren: the fishing charter boat company – they want to reserve a boat for next year – must reserve it ASAP or it will be too late. This is a good opportunity for SFCD members to participate.
Proposal -- Rima Cornish: She asked that SFCD help match the amount of money they fundraise to help with the sponsorship for the Stingers. (Refer to the earlier story today).
Proposal -- Judy Ford -- FOG will have its 5th year anniversary -- asked for 300 dollars. The event will take place on May 21st. According to the policy, we must wait until July before making a decision.
Proposal -- Toby Daniels -- CSD Bengals Tackle Football -- asked for 2500 to help meet the team fee obligation of $5,300 for this coming fall season.
Proposal -- Phyllis Vidicki -- needs to purchase some light weight tables for potluck use and entertainment used by Senior Citizens. The reason for this proposal is because the old tables are too heavy to move. It will be a good idea to put labels on the new tables so others will know that they belong to the Senior Citizens.
Proposal --Rima Cornish -- Deaf Youth Association – USA is a newly established organization for ages 18 thru 30. They will have camp this summer to help promote leadership. SFCD can get a booth -- different levels of sponsorships were explained. Camp will take place this July 4th.
Event Director Clark Brooke’s current list of proposals to be acted on during July’s proposal/board meeting.
